Babu’s is a registered home bakery located in SE Aurora that specializes in familiar baked treats infused with flavors from India, like rose, cardamom, pistachio, saffron, cloves, and turmeric.
Babu’s came about from a mixture of boredom, creativity, and stubbornness. Being a career baker was never in my career sights. In my 20s, I worked in radio promotions and taught ESL in Japan and Korea. In my 30s, I was a Special Education teacher. Now, at 40, I am a small business owner, woman entrepreneur, and a ROCKER-BAKER MOM!
We are a mixed family. My husband is from Mumbai, India, with his family still there, and I’m American. We wanted to make sure that our son, Viv, has exposure to both his American AND Indian roots. I often cook traditional Indian food at home and have gotten quite good at it! I have also been into baking with new flavors for a few years now. With the pandemic not going anywhere, my need to work from home, and my yearning to do something BIGGER for my family and myself, Babu’s was born.
“Babu” literally means “sir” in Hindi. When my husband was a young boy in India, his mother would also refer to him as “Babu”. Now, with our lil’ boy, we have continued this tradition since the day he was born. This business is for our “Babu”, our “bala krishna” (baby Krishna), so he can grow up seeing his mama work hard and we can get a free delivery driver out of him.
