What Better Time Than Now?

Well, it’s finally coming together. I’ve always been good at coming up with ideas, but not so hot with the follow-through. This time it’s different. I’m taking this journey one step at a time. The first step is getting my product and brand out there. I did my research and learned that starting a small at-home business through the Colorado Cottage Food Act was the fastest and most legal way to do this.

So how did this idea for Babu’s even start? Well let me take you back to 2013 where I met my “bearmate”, Rohan. Interesting factoid: he is from Mumbai, India. As I’ve always had a knack for cooking and baking, I was eager to learn how to cook authentic Indian food at home for my husband (married in 2015). Over the years, I’ve gotten quite good at it. I make a mean saag, ya’ll!

Then came the third part of our whole: our son, Viv. Yes, yes, interesting name. We named him after Viv Richards, the best cricket batsman in the HISTORY of cricket. I wanted to make sure he was familiar with the flavors from half of his heritage, so I started experimenting with common foods and giving them a little Indian flair. Some fragrant and decadent Indian flavors mixed into familiar baked goods.

When my mother and father-in-law visited from India, we had homemade Chai (creamy and sweet Indian-spiced black tea) every morning. She taught me how to make it and maaaaaan it is a super intensive process, but that flavor with some cookies dipped in just screams comfort food. I tried many different ways to duplicate that gorgeous Chai flavor my mother-in-law made, and finally came upon THE winner by far for taste and ease of making. Then I pulverized those ingredients and bagged them up for you!

So long-term goals of Babu’s? I want to create a BRAND. I want to showcase Indian flavors to folks that otherwise might not have been exposed to them. Indian food isn’t all butter chicken and naan. There are some brilliant flavors hidden away that I am still discovering and want to cook for you. The sky is the limit, but for now, it’s babysteps.
